I think it was Newton who said words to the effect that for every action there is an equal and oposite reaction. I apply this to what I ‘know’ about fat, it relieves me momentarily, on a level I know not to be true, of responsibility for my own weight gains. So here is my theory of fat transference; there’s only so much fat in the world, a finite fat supply, so if some person somewhere is losing some, some other person (possibly me, possibly you) is gaining it. Now of course there is a potential world where this could be fine, helpful even. Imagine that you could allocate your fat to a very thin person, ideally one who wanted it, try not to transfer maliciously in this scenario. As far as I’m aware there are no medical/scientific studies being undertaken on this topic but I think I may be about to witness a breakthrough. As I am starting to lose weight, my husbands shirt collars are getting tighter. Yes! A scientific breakthrough under my own roof.
There is of course another possibility, that this shirt collar shrinkage stems from the direct opposite of what my diet group leader described as The Diet Domino Effect. The Diet Domino Effect refers to the possibility that your ‘good’ food behaviour and healthy choices will have a positive effect on those around you, family, friends and colleagues. I don’t have the words to name the opposite of The Diet Domino Effect, but in a nut shell if the same quantity of biscuits, cake, tortilla chips and yummy dip are in the house and one of the household is abstaining, the other member of the household will quite likely eat it all and as a consequence their collars may shrink.
