The grand old Duke of York

I’ve recently read a couple of keep fit articles that advocate morning exercise. Exercise on an empty or a fasting stomach is really efficient with regards to weight loss apparently. Ok, I can buy into that. The idea put forward frequently and by many that morning exercise invigorates you for the rest of the day, not so much, I just don’t see that.

Morning exercise knackers me, I need to exercise at a time when it’s acceptable to then flump on the sofa until it’s ok to crawl into bed.

I walked to work this morning, up over Primrose Hill, 6,250 steps, up over Primrose Hill dear reader! It’s a steep hill. It’s much steeper heading to work than coming the other way. I think I should stick to walking home. I spent the first hour and a half after I arrived at my studio recovering in my Dad’s chair, on Facebook, leaving laughing emojis derisively on political posts.

Obviously that won’t pay the bills.

I saw a lot of personal training action on the hill today, there’s an outdoor gym which encourages that sort of behaviour, and a population that can afford to pay an ultra fit bully to force them to march up and down the hill like one of the Duke of York’s 10,000 men.

As I walked up the hill, stopping to look at the view and catch my breath, people overtook me, running. Some show offs then ran down the hill past me and passed me a third time going up again.

There’s keeping fit and then there’s running yourself into an early grave, or at least that’s what I wished for those smug bastards when I was only half way up, once.

At the top when I could breathe freely again, I was nicer and full of admiration for their stamina.

  1. ❤️❤️❤️ never mind early grave! I have keep-fitted myself into two metal knees and a premature glimpse of mobility issues. Great drawing…again. You continue e to keep me laughing. Thank you.Jx
