Filing.

I’m good at it. I keep this quiet, it’s not clever or creative or a thing of beauty.

I am a queen of filing, according to our leader. I believe in filing. It’s the answer when several people need access to hard copy info about multiple subjects.

Yes, this really is me, the Fat Tart, you haven’t accidentally strayed onto an office management blog.

I set up my files for this academic year some time ago and have now also organised my colleagues files as they’re prioritising otherwise. File forward everyone.

My computers are pretty well set up too. I don’t like lots of bits on the screen. Everything ends up in a folder. Items that other people think I need but I don’t, go into one of three folders entitled, misc, general and shite. The items I want but that have no obvious home, go into folders named stuff and nonsense. I have a personal folder, me me me.

I have a habit of using shortened file names, I opened one recently named, mum fun, I was expecting a laugh, she was funny after all. What I found was all things relating to her funeral. Disappointing and sad.

If I am Queen of filing, Frenchie is Empress. It’s not about filing it’s about finding, is her motto. A librarian, she files everything, including towels and sheets by size and colour.

I don’t bring my filing habit home but many who’ve seen my clothes storage arrangements would most likely say that I should.

Messy Tart? Or Tart with limited space and an excessive number of dresses, knickers and tights?

My wardrobe motto is; it’s not about finding, it’s about the surprise of discovery. What can match the joy of coming across a forgotten out of season sale purchase just as you need it? I’m thinking about that joy now and it warms my heart. Not equal to the joy of a new baby obviously. but more joyous than a winning streak of solitaire. Somewhere in the middle, the sight of swans on a lake maybe, a sunset perhaps.

Whatever, it’s great, exciting even.
