The covid-19 diet

Yesterday

Just back from a quick trip to Sainsbury’s to buy casserole vegetables.

What a shocker. I was prepared for no toilet roll and no pasta but there was bugger all of anything. I returned home with two packs of mushrooms, a pack of bacon, a variety of manky carrots from the bottom of the box, the last broccoli, the last cauliflower, some celery and a jar of pickled beetroot.

This covid-19 diet will be a bit of a grocery lucky dip I think.

Today

1st day working from home. I managed to arrive late, I didn’t start work until 9 am. I got caught up watching a Kojak. In my defence it was a story that focussed on a New York fashion model with a split personality, a must watch obviously. I nearly got sucked into a Frasier but I remembered it. I was able to laugh at the memory and move on.

I’ve made a note not to switch the tv on before 5:30.

I spent the largest part of the day being bemused by modern communication tech relating to remote meetings etc. I’ve downloaded and signed up to all manner of apps. Only time will tell if I can master the use of it all….by Monday 10 am. I am however feeling optimistically 21st century.

Plans for meals this week will necessarily be flexible. We had a beef and mushroom stew with dumplings today. We’ve got chicken in a mushroom sauce with broccoli tomorrow, cauliflower cheese and baked potato the night after that. As the weekend approaches it’s hard to predict what the menu might look like.

If all else fails it’ll be a bowl of pickled beetroot and a carrot.
