You may have noticed that I’m inclined to overthink.
Recently I needed to find out when the very beautiful mosaics at the zoo entrance had arrived. I was unwilling to believe they’d been there unnoticed by my eagle eyes for very long. It was a matter of pride as I fancy myself to be very observant. No available date. No where. No mention of them anywhere. So I googled images of the zoo entrance over time and I was then sure they were new. No image of the zoo entrance online included them, not one. To confirm, Cornflake went old school information gathering and asked a group of zoo workers, from a safe distance of course. After much discussion, they agreed that, yes, the mosaics are new.
I tell you this so that you can appreciate the energy I will put into researching the trivial.
On our walk home from the park yesterday morning, I stopped to take a picture, again, I’ve got masses of them, of the statue I always think of as Bo Peep. She stands above a grotto on the edge of the park, looking out for something. I knew I had read somewhere that this was not a statue of the girl who’d lost her sheep.
I checked, in a world so full of uncertainty it’s nice to know those things that are knowable. St Pancras it said on it’s plaque, it’s a statue of St Pancras. Ok. Nearby there’s a bas-relief of a girl being attacked by a wild animal, Cornflake and I think it’s a wolf. This is a 3D visualisation of the martyrdom of St Pancras according to the surrounding text. I was curious to know what she might have been looking for and how she then came to die, torn apart by beasts, I searched on the Internet.
This is what I’ve found:
St Pancras was a boy. Really? A Roman Martyr beheaded, yes beheaded, not eaten by beasts, aged 14.
Considering the apparently contradictory information available at the current time, visual and textual, I have concluded that St Pancras was a cross dressing, Italian teenager and owner of a big dog, murdered aged 14 for his religious beliefs, he is now venerated as the patron saint of children, jobs and health. He can also be called upon to work against false witnesses, headaches and perjurers, should you need help in any of those respects.
You’re welcome, I’m glad I could help.

And there I was thinking it was a railway station 🙄
