Reasons to be cheerful

I’m negative, I’m COVID negative, or at least I was at midday today.

In an effort to be more positive, attitude wise, I’ve been attempting to channel Ian Dury and the Blockheads.

I had to consciously look for them, but I’ve found several reasons to be cheerful..

Unable to take our planned trip to visit Goodly and her family last weekend, Cornflake and I slouched comfortably on the sofa. I began to think about what things give me joy that I can actually have, do. Hidden behind the disappointment of the cancelled visit was the joy of sofa time with my best boy. I’m thinking about naming the sofa, it’s such an integral part of our home, family even. Sofia.

Reasons to be cheerful, 1,2,3 hubby, home, sofa.

Last week GorJus and I went out for a walk, let’s get some fresh air, she said. I suspect that this was specifically to cheer me up. We walked to the river grabbing a take out hot chocolate, we stood on Blackfriars bridge looking west, a crazy cloud land sat above the London sunset. A winter city sunset, cold grey, shiny. We thought we were like damsels on a castle turret. We walked back to the studio through the empty streets around White Friars, Cheshire court, past a statue of a city gent that someone has put a mask on. We stopped and chatted with the talking statue of Samuel Johnson’s cat. We saw bars and cafes, to visit in a freer future.

Reasons to be cheerful, 4,5,6, kind new friends, old streets, statues.

Much earlier that day I’d walked on Hampstead Heath with an old friend.

Reasons to be cheerful 7,8,9, open space and spectacular views, old friends, chat.

I love London, so if I get out from up my own arse and out and about, it’ll most likely cheer me up. Especially, please remember the I am FatTart, if I can get something edible.

One morning last week, on the way to my studio, on a very cold and misty morning, I popped into the Sainsbury’s and bought a hot pasty. I took it to the church next door, I ate it in the church yard garden.

Reasons to be cheerful, 10,11,12, London mist, pasties, Wren.

A dozen, that’ll do to be going on with.
