Pasta bake

I haven’t produced or read peer reviewed academic studies on this topic, but I’d guess that a high proportion of people, other that celiacs, like a pasta bake, especially one with extra cheese, apart for vegans. Freshly prepared or prego with a ready made sauce, veggie or meaty, a treat for almost everyone.

Well, before they read this it was.

I have a system in place to counteract the extreme cold of the studio space. I have two oil filled radiators, one positioned under each of the pattern cutting tables. This positioning means that the warm air rises and hits the underneath of the high table top. It heats the table and disperses in all directions before heading for the ceiling, rather than the hot air bypassing the heating the room element of its job, skipping straight to the ceiling where it is no use to no one.

On my days in the studio last week, Marmalade was busy on one table cutting out her new range of coats, I was mostly at the sewing machine working on a variety of jobs. The gold table was home to varying combinations of my neighbourhood gang, working on computers, pattern making or just keeping warm.

The set up is sociable, and fun, as well as being warmer than anywhere else on the floor.

Obviously privacy isn’t a thing and everyone is used to the calls I receive from Cornflake. Usually these calls are not controversial. Wether we’ve met for coffee or lunch or not seen each other since the morning, the topic of the daily afternoon call is dinner. What are we having for dinner? What time? He’ll ask the questions, even when the options in the fridge number just one and I’m usually home at roughly the same time. Sometimes, the discussion leads to a food shopping trip. It’s a rare day that we don’t have this chat. It’s a touching base habit. I like it. Regular onlookers are mildly amused that we can repeat this almost identical conversation so often. Thursday, the day set aside for pasta bake, Cornflake rang as usual.

My husband is a bit deaf.

What shall we have for dinner? He asked

Pasta bake.

What?

Pasta bake.

What?

You can add extra cheese if you like.

I don’t understand.

PASTA BAKE!

Oh, yeah, great, of course….what I was hearing was masturbate

Oh dear.

Visions of future pasta bakes and personal intimacies lie in ruins.

Sorry everyone.
