What is your favorite animal?
The giraffe fabric.
I may have mentioned the giraffe fabric before. I bought it many years ago because I love giraffes. It’s a Liberty print on silk crepe de chine. It wasn’t cheap, but I love giraffes so why not? I said to the shop assistant, I’ve got to have it, I love giraffes. She cut it, I paid. She may have heard two separate statements. It would excuse her lack of a useful response….I’ve got to have it, full stop, I love giraffes. Although why a woman shopping for luxury fabrics, even me, would randomly announce her love of an African plains animal, I don’t know. Weeks after I got the fabric I was about to cut it when I realised that it’s a print of trees and Viking looking ships, not a giraffe in sight. I stopped, I’ve kept it uncut as a lesson to myself to not be so overexcitable in fabric shops.
The print involves some giraffe-ish colours, and some of the tree trunks are vaguely like a long neck. My love of giraffes, combined with an overactive imagination, filled in non existent dots to make creatures where there were none.
