Half a stone and a sticker

No weigh-in last week due to my road trip, so my fourth trip to the scales was this evening. I wore my fat club outfit and I have lost one more pound. One pound in two weeks could be considered pathetic but it brings the total to half a stone in four weeks and that’s not bad in my book. I was given a sticker, I wish it was a badge.

A friend I visited in Scotland, let’s call her Knitty Tart, who also carries a bit of extra chub. Knitty is happy if she gets from one year to the next without gaining more weight and I can definitely appreciate that as a life goal. Knitty has a son who has put on weight recently which I think surprised him. It is a strange sensation when you can’t eat all you want anymore without consequences, anyone finding themselves at this juncture has my sympathy. Anyhow, Knitty’s son has put himself on a diet and his approach is shockingly straightforward. He found out from the internet how many calories a man of his age should consume to lose weight, he downloaded an app to his phone that gives the calorie content of pretty much all foods. He uses this to track the food and drink he consumes. When he reaches the appropriate number of calories for the day he stops eating. He just stops eating. It’s no surprise that he is losing the extra weight. I commend his diet clarity whilst wanting to point out that nobody likes a smart arse, but I felt this response was inappropriate when talking to his mum.

Personally I’ll keep being largely focussed, happy in the knowledge that an occasional potato threeways sandwich followed by ice cream isn’t necessarily a diet apocalypse.

Back to the gym tomorrow, I’m not taking money with me so a taxi home won’t be an option.

  1. I don’t think him being a smart arse is annoying, as much as his ability to self discipline that’s infuriating….

    1. I was chatting to a friend’s BF the other day, he’s lost so much weight, but he doesn’t know how much because he doesn’t weight himself. He a big tall man and he’s lost about 3 clothes sizes, so it must be stones. He’s doing the 16.8 diet where you fast for 16 hours a day but he says it’s not a diet!
