Child free

I was chatting with a couple of friends a short while back and they both sited childbearing as being partly the cause of their less trim than they used to be bodies.

I don’t have that excuse.

Cornflake and I don’t have children.

There are upsides to being child free to compensate for childless status . Most of these are freedom and sleep based. We for instance still live like students, in central London in a small flat and come and go as we please, responsible to each other only. I sleep like a log, according to lord Fitbit I take zero minutes to go to sleep. I don’t know how parents ever sleep, if your child isn’t actively screaming and keeping you up, where are they? Are they breathing? Who are they with? What are they doing? Are they safe? Small people worry me, teenagers worry me more and I imagine it doesn’t stop there, I’m probably not mentally or emotionally cut out for parenthood.

Socially you have options when childless:

You can mix with friends with children (and leave when you like)

You can buy the little ones drum kits if their parents piss you off.

You have the option for non kiddy time in a way that parents don’t.

Also;

You don’t have to give up expensive shoe and knicker habits to fund sport or dance activities.

You can enjoy children and teenagers for the crazy ass individuals they are because you don’t have to live with them or have the responsibility of training them……

Most of our friends with children have a child rather than children, largely due to partying/working too hard and leaving it too late to fit in multiples, some were fortunate and achieved twins.

I had a gynaecological disorder at the age of seven so knew early in life that conceiving might be difficult.

Aged sixteen I saw a film at school about childbirth entitled ‘A preparation for Sarah’. The film traced the mother and baby journey from just after conception to a no holds barred view of the business end at the birth.

I passed out.

I salute those who have children but even without the physical problem I expect I might well have opted not to go there.

Thank you Sarah’s mum.
