I’d like to start by saying what surprisingly, unseasonably, cold, wet weather we’re currently experiencing, but that would be nonsense. It may be cold and wet and June but this is England. Half the Junes I’ve ever known have probably been at least this grim at least in part. What have seasons got to do with the british weather? Not that much I’d say. A few weeks back it was sweltering, goodness knows what next week will bring.

Whatever it is I’m prepared for it, summer clothes ready but with a couple of jumper dresses to hand. Earlier today I popped out to get some groceries and got soaked, so I stopped off and bought myself a waterproof, wind proof, breathable jacket, I’m really ready now. The jacket is very ugly and several sizes too big. There were much more appropriately sized, less ugly ones but I can’t bring myself to go that way. I wouldn’t want anyone thinking I’d choose such a jacket for aesthetic reasons. Even the less ugly ones are ugly. This one looks like I’ve borrowed it from a kindly fat man and I’m comfortable with that.

I’m clearly sartorially conflicted. Basically I’m a clothes snob and I don’t think such an item has any place in my wardrobe. Perhaps I really shouldn’t venture out in bad weather…but lord Fitbit demands it and as I’m my Fitbit’s dog I’ll do as I’m told.

I welcome my new, ugly jacket, I just hope I don’t bump into anyone I know while wearing it.
