Keeping Cool

That’s the message today, keep cool .

All possible interpretations of the word please.

Consistent temperatures of over 30 degrees means the met office has released an amber heat/health alert. Take care….especially the old, the over 65’s. Although I have long since suspected that death by London heat might be the end of me, I object to this message, mostly because it earmarks me as old. Oddly I’m not offended that my pension that will be kicking in soon, albeit 6 years late, marks me as an old age pensioner. Obviously people need to pay if they want to bandy ‘Old’ in my direction.

Anyhow Cornflake and I are currently on the sofa with a fan on us, I’m a little drunk due to an earlier keeping cool session in an air conditioned bar.

Nice.

Yesterday we kept cool sitting outside a lovely bar in the shade. I’m wondering if an extended period of extreme heat could result in a drink problem. At chez Tart drinking can lead to excessive chocolate consumption as sweet stuff is Cornflake’s go to nibble when under the influence. I’m more concerned about a potential chocolate addiction than the chance of an alcohol issue.

I wonder if the met office knows that these are areas of concern for the older population and just hasn’t been specific in the warning?

I’m glad that my current work means leaving home early before the underground is hot and busy and that my workplace is air conditioned. I’m also delighted that I can do the larger part of my homeward journey on the air conditioned Elizabeth line or walk along a canal, grab a drink and get on the air conditioned overground.

I haven’t yet got to the point where I’m going to join the kids in fountains but never say never if this heat carries on.
