Dolly Parton died last night.
An admirable woman beloved by many including myself.
I may not have mentioned it before but I am a closet country music fan. The more miserable the better. Dolly’s voice was the perfect country voice, her hair the perfect country hair, she was the perfect country music star.
As I hurtle towards my three score years and ten, 80 really doesn’t seem old enough, especially not for a smasher like Dolly. I can think of one for whom eighty years seems far too long, but I’m sure Dolly would not approve of that sort of thinking, so for today I’ll put it on the back burner.
I thought that in her honour I’d try to be a bit more Dolly.
It’s a hard task. An exceptional musician, singer, songwriter, kind to everyone, supportive of friends, family, and community, entrepreneurial, a philanthropist, able to put everyone at ease.
It’s a special person who can give so generously to so many, while believing that it’s her honour and her joy to be able to help out.
I hope her strongly held belief in a god I don’t believe in eased her life’s end. She was a proper Christian, that is, one who lived by Christ’s teachings, loving not judging, so I hope so.
Her sartorial choices are a whole other extensive kettle of fish, It’s more likely for me able to be a bit Dolly in this respect given my personality.
I might have to settle for having huge breasts and getting my nails done by way of honouring her memory.
May her god bless her, may I be wrong, and let her long loved husband be waiting for her in a heaven.
