Richard lll

A bank holiday afternoon on the South Bank, always a joy.

In a world with the possibility of nuclear war just around the corner, the future has rarely seemed so uncertain. It’s good to get out, see sights, people peopling, and at long last the weather getting its English groove back on. I’ve been rained on for four consecutive days and I’m loving it. My hair not so much.

We sat outside a pub on the river. It has one of my favourite views of the city. We didn’t have their excellent fish and chips, we just had drinks.

I was very taken with the father and daughter on a dad date with whom we were sharing a table, but Cornflake spotted a barge parked on the west side of Blackfriars. Why was it there? he wanted to know

The Richard lll. I googled. It’s a pump out vessel. It’s used to empty sewerage and waste tanks from residential and leisure boats. Eew.

Its name is Cockney rhyming slang, I’m so happy to know this, I thought that I must share the joy.

I shouldn’t need to translate but for my overseas readers, Richard the third=turd

A quick hop over the wobbly bridge, a wander around St Paul’s and home for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, possibly 9 to 5 later.

I love London.

There it is, Richard lll
